I have a hi def widescreen tv. The wii is hooked up through composite cables (yellow, white and red (one video, two audio)). 1. I heard that widescreen CANNOT be transmitted through composite cables. Is that correct? 2. Does it matter for VC games, GC games or Wii games? Thanks for any help.4:3 or 16:9 settings?
if u have a widescreen tv u need to get component cables. no exceptions4:3 or 16:9 settings?
So that is true what I said that composite cannot display a 16:9 format. Alright thanks for the help. Since I only have one component input on my tv and my 360 is already using that. I will deal with the wii in 4:3.
if u have a widescreen tv u need to get component cables. no exceptions
No that's not true at allIt's all up to the games, they all play at their normal resolutions.I do suggest that you grab a set of component cables for the pure fact that an HD set only understands 480p and higher signals on it's own and the Wii outputs with 480i without them.At the very least it's going to look better and also it'll clear up any lag issues you might be having
What? composite can display 16:9 it just can't display in progressive scan. But yes you should get the component cables but until then by all means use the 16:9 ratio :).
is 480p way better than 480i?
get compent and put it on 480p 16 :9 by the way its not real 16 '' 9 its just moved out to look like it .
is 480p way better than 480i?
not really . its the same res. just 480p is a bit more clear . but if you get the better cables it really helps the colours stnad out .
I'm not going to get component cables btw. I played Resident evil 4 for the gamecube on that and setting the wii to widescreen just stretches it out and it looks distorted. Basically do I have to look for games that have a widescreen option?

In my first post I stated that I have a 360 w/ component. I have one component input on my tv. I'm not going to switch those 5 cables out whenever I want to play one of them. Plus the wii only goes to 480p I'd not compare that to the gas in a car.

Who switches cables anymore? There's solutions available these days for that.Either way you're missing out on what the Wii offers. For the rest of this it comes down to finding widescreen games. Resident Evil 4 is pseudo 16:9, those black bars are there to give them impression it's widescreen, the black parts are part of the game as well, just play it with black on the top and bottom plus left and right if you don't want it distorted.
Thats how I was doing it (with RE4). I've heard that unless you spend over 50? on those boxes that the picture can get distorted with multiple cables hooked up. Until I see a wii game that looks so great that I'm willing to spend about 60$ just to get from 480i to 480p I'll stick with composite. As of right now for my situation, its not worth it to me.
Fair enough.Keep watching some brands and then pick them up when they're in the range you're willing to spend.Back to the widescreen problem, that's really going to be hit or miss, some games you'll want to play will have it and some wont.
Be nice if the wii had an option to detect widescreen and go to that mode if it was available. Every new game will be trial and error to find out but oh well.
