Earthbound- why is so great?

i hear that RPG is very popular in japan, i saw some screenshots on mother 3 and i didn't get why is so great, so why Earthbound is so great and how could it work on Wii?Earthbound- why is so great?
There was a good article on the series in Nintendo Power about 6 months ago.I think it was a breath of fresh air in what had become some stale genres.Earthbound- why is so great?

There are too many reasons to list why Earthbound is so great. It's not particularly innovative in terms of gameplay, but it has a style and a tone all its own. In that way, it's kind of like No More Heroes.It's an RPG that plays more or less like a Dragon Quest game. It uses simple command menus and a first-person battle system. It's set in a sort of twisted version of our modern world, and you'll be ordering items and pizzas over the telephone, buying hamburgers and fries at the local fast food joint, and beating up local lunatics with a baseball bat. The story has a distinctive Japanese flavor, courtesy of famous copywriter Shigesato Itoi, who wrote the scenario and most of the dialogue. It centers on an alien invasion, but the plot pulls in lots of curious elements, like a cult obsessed with the color blue, a statue that creates disturbing hallucinations, a magical melody, an underground country inhabited by dinosaurs, and a man who is slowly turning himself into an RPG dungeon.
